Tommie Ray Spiers, 91, died Wednesday, January 7, 2026, after a very short battle with cancer. He was surrounded in love by his family.
Tommie Ray was born on April 15, 1934, in Logtown, Mississippi to George Thomas Spiers and Bertha Asher Spiers. He was a graduate of Bay High School.
Tommie Ray Spiers married Alice Francis Shubert on December 5, 1954. The two were lifelong companions and best friends. They were blessed with five children, Michael, Glen, Karen, Joanna and Douglas.
Tommie Ray was known for his hard work. He was employed at Halter Marine and Trinity Shipyards for most of his life. He was a shipfitter and a machinist.
He was a member of Old Spanish Trail Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Tommie Ray worked as a poll worker for about 60 years and managed the polls at the Bayou Phillip Community Center. Tommie Ray loved his wife. His eyes would sparkle whenever he spoke of her or saw her. They had a wonderful life together enjoying motorcycle rides, bluegrass festivals, camping, fishing, gardening and spending time with their loved ones. In his earlier years he raised livestock and vegetables. His other hobbies included traveling, bird watching, and wood crafting,
Tommie Ray is survived by his children, Michael (Donna), Glen (Patty), Karen Jackson, Joanna Lewis (John), and Douglas; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews, and his sister Linda Sue Spiers Branum
Tommie Ray was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Alice Francis Shubert Spiers, still born son, Wayne, brother, Hayward Joseph Spiers, daughter-in-law, Wanda Spiers and son-in-law Randall Jackson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 1:00PM – 5:00PM at the Bayou Phillips Community Center located on Harbor Drive in Bay Saint Louis, MS. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Old Spanish Trail Baptist Church (5078 Hwy 90, Bay Saint Louis, MS 39520) for a roof fund and to preserve the building and property that his wife, Alice’s father donated.
