Sally Benoit Matherne

Sally Benoit Matherne peacefully passed away at home surrounded by her family in Kiln, MS, on September 25th, 2026.

Sally was born on February 12, 1951, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Eddie Paul Benoit Sr. and the late Gladys Benoit. She attended West Jefferson High School. Sally found happiness in the simple things in life. She enjoyed riding her lawn mower, watching Walker Texas Ranger, spending time with her family, and listening to the Rosary. Above all, Sally treasured the time she shared with those she loved. Her family was an important part of her life, and the memories they made together will continue to be cherished.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Steve J. Matherne Sr., her parents, Eddie and Gladys Benoit, her son-in-law, Johnny W. Nugent Sr., as well as two nieces and three nephews. She is survived by her children, Angel Nugent; Stephanie Allen (Frank); Crystal Matherne; Steve J. Matherne Jr. (Kendra); April Cash (Mike); and Samantha Cheney (Clay Sr.).

Sally also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Tracy Jr.; Michael and Keith Poyadou; Johnny W. Nugent Jr. (Christian); Bruce and Chelsie Conant; Amie Nugent (Timmy Preston); Jonathan Alexander Jr; Jacob and Raegan Dombrowski ; Austin Matherne (Annaliese); Kylee Matherne; Brennan Matherne; Kailey Matherne; Clay Cheney Jr.; Micah Matherne; Ryan Matherne; Alyssa Cheney (Jerrell); Kynzie Matherne; Colt Cheney,  and Maria Nugent.

Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Chalee Lindsey; Brandon Teabout Jr.; Bruce Conant; Abigayle Nugent; Ayva Conant; Johnny Nugent III; Ronin Conant; Blake Tholl; Khazak Preston; Elias Conant; Maeleigh Kemper; Ellie Blackmon; Steve J. Nugent; and Evie Conant.

She is also survived by her siblings, Eddie, Pat, Mary, Susan, Debbie, Carol, Donna, and Julie, along with many other relatives and loved ones who will deeply miss her.

A funeral mass honoring Sally's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Public Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at St Mary’s Cemetery in Bay St Louis, Mississippi.

Sally will be remembered for the love she had for her family and for the countless memories she leaves behind. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her life and legacy will continue through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and everyone fortunate enough to have known and loved her.
