Bay St Louis, MS: Roy A. Troendle, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2 at St. Oaks Care Center in Carriere, MS, where he had been lovingly cared for during his long journey with dementia.
Roy was born in New Orleans on October 25, 1946 to Claire Sulli Troendle and Roy A. Troendle, Sr (Uncle Roy to many junior sailors). He was a talented and competitive sailor. First introduced to the love of sailing by his dad, Roy had an innate feel for the wind and raced competitively for years in many boat classes. Before moving to Bay St. Louis in 2013, Roy was a lifelong New Orleanian. A graduate of Jesuit High School and Loyola University, he then worked alongside his family at Troendle Hardwood Flooring and Crescent Hardwood Supplies. On his birthday in 1980, Roy married the love of his life, Katherine Quigley Troendle. He and Kathi spent many happy years sailing together, especially to their favorite place, Horn Island, where Roy was quite sure his dogs hold the record for most pawprints in the sand.
Roy was a man of many talents. He could grill anything to perfection and loved hosting friends at home and on the boat. He loved history and old, authentic pieces of history, including wooden boats. As the owner of several in his lifetime, he knew his way around a roll of Duct tape and a bottle of Git Rot. And, in true Gulf Coast fashion, he amazed his Dallas nephews with his speed and dexterity with a boiled crab. Roy was a member of St. Rose de Lima Church, Bay Waveland Yacht Club where he previously served on the board, and a lifelong member of Southern Yacht Club,
Most importantly, Roy will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, mischievous smile and quick wit. He lived his best life his way, loved being on the water with the wind in his face, was loved by many and shared lots of laughs with dear friends.
Left to cherish great memories are his wife Kathi, sister-in-law Alicia Cheek, nephews Taylor, Brian (Annette) and Carter (Shannon) Cheek, stepson Bruce Levy (Ragnhild) and many cousins and great nieces and nephews.
The family will be forever grateful for the loving care, respect and kindness shown by everyone at St. Oaks Care Center and Notre Dame Hospice.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation at 11am at St. Rose de Lima Church in Bay St. Louis on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, followed by a Mass at 12noon. Burial will be at a future date.
