Waveland, MS

Patrick Jenkins Johnston of Waveland, MS passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026 at the age of 75, in Waveland, MS.

Patrick was born on January 5, 1951 in Bay St. Louis, MS to Richard Johnston and Dorothy Fayard Johnston. He worked for Bayview Homes in Pass Christian for many years, using one of his many talents, as a carpenter. In 1989 he started his own lawn care business which he continued until retirement.

Pat became a member of Old Town Presbyterian Church in Bay St. Louis, MS after Hurricane Katrina. He became a Deacon with the church and was proud to serve in that role until his health declined.

Pat enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening and would plant anything he thought might grow. His favorite was to have a large vegetable garden year-round and fruit trees in the middle of any open area. He provided fresh vegetables to all his neighbors and loved when his small nieces and nephews would come over for some of Uncle Pat's fresh veggies. Due to complications from diabetes, he had a bilateral leg amputation leaving him wheel chair bound. While in the nursing home recovering, he was provided an area and supplies to have a raised garden. He resided in Cambridge Cottages for the past two years and still grew some vegetables in pots. The residence in the apartment complex have shared that they each have a tomato plant from him.

Patrick was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Dorothy Johnston, his brothers Richard and Jimmy Johnston and a sister, Sylvia Peterson, and many other loving relatives.

Patrick is survived by his four children, Casey and wife Kim Johnston of Long Beach, MS, Jessica Johnston (Christopher Shureb) of New Orleans, LA, Emma Johnston (Channing Reynolds) of Waveland, MS and Tia Johnston (Brody Coker) of Bay St. Louis, MS. His grandchildren, Brock Byrd, Cole Johnston, Ashlyn Maxwell, Addisyn Acosta, Olivia Acosta, Corbin Davis, Emelia Favre, Stetson Hoda, Landry Hoda, Tucker Reynolds, great granddaughter, Callie Maxwell and a great grandson due anytime. One brother, Dennis Johnston and wife Michelle of Punta Gorda, FL and former wives, Deborah Soffra Strickland and Piccola Dietrich Johnston. He is survived by many nieces and nephews that he loved as his own, a life time of friends and his many adoptive grandchildren at Cambridge Cottages.

The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date and will post on Facebook.

The family would like to thank the residents of Cambridge Cottage for always checking in on Mr. Pat, visiting with him, talking about his plants and sharing a cold beer. His children, Casey and Tia Johnston for keeping up with all his medical needs during his many life-threatening illnesses. And Deaconess Hospice for providing care over the past year.
