It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our sister, Norma Jean “Nonnie” Richardson, on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the young age of 58. Even though she had no children of her own, she was a mother hen to numerous nieces and nephews. She was a reserved person that never wanted to be the center of attention, even though she was the baby of the family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working with her coworkers at the Hancock County Library System, where she worked for the last four years. Her boss stated that patrons and coworkers adored her. She always had a smile on her face and was eager to lend a helping hand. She was the first to volunteer for community outreach and programming initiatives. She played a significant role in the HCLS social media team, where she coordinated with all five branches to share the fantastic events and activities happening at each library. Nonnie was a Bay High graduate and earned her B.A. degree in Business. She worked for Hancock Medical and later Ochsner’s as a medical coder, where she was still working part-time. Nonnie was also an active member with the Hancock County Relay for Life in addition to serving as Co-Chair for the past several years.
Nonnie was a Saint’s fan and a fan of anything that nieces and nephews participated in. She was always there, often in the background, waiting to lend a helping hand. She loved animals and always had some type of pet. She enjoyed traveling, especially with our mother years ago, where they would go all over, often taking two or three nieces and nephews with them. They weren’t only traveling; they were making lasting memories. She was a light that dimmed too soon.
Nonnie was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Norma Richardson; paternal grandparents, Iva and Edgar Richardson and maternal grandparents, B.D. “Fip” and Rose Johnson.
She is survived by four brothers Ray (Robin) Richardson, Dave (Joy) Richardson, Mike (Amy) Richardson, and Bobby (Melissa) Richardson; sister, Margie (Brian) Schmitt; thirteen nieces and nephews, and twenty-four great nieces and nephews.
