Mary Catherine Thornton Ladner, age 74, of Waveland, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on February 19, 2026.
Mary was born on August 31, 1951, in Kenner, Louisiana, to Burt and Jane Thornton. She was a graduate of high school and went on to complete cosmetology school before beginning a long and dedicated career. Mary worked faithfully for Hancock Whitney for 36 years, where she built lasting friendships and was known for her strong work ethic and kind heart.
Mary found her greatest joy in her family. She loved watching her grandchildren play sports and participate in extracurricular activities, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer them on. She treasured her many years working at Quality Custom Carts alongside her son Brett and always looked forward to the many family events hosted by her son Larry and his wife Shannon. Her life was centered around her children and grandchildren, and she was happiest when they were all together.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Burt and Jane Thornton and her brother Eddie Thornton.
Mary is survived by her sons, Larry A. Ladner Jr. and his wife, Shannon Ladner, and Brett A. Ladner; her grandchildren, Dillan Ladner, Austin Ladner, and Alexis Ladner; and her brothers, Jimmy Thornton and Dickie Thornton.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, with Mass beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Bayou LaCroix Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to The Blake, St. Joseph Hospice, Care 4 All, and Dr. Boles for their compassionate care and support during this time.
Mary will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her steady presence, and the love she gave so freely to those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Edmond Fahey Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mary Catherine Thornton Ladner.
