Marvin Sidney Bernatsky, born November 18, 1934, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Herman and Sadie Bernatsky, passed away April 7, 2026, at the age of 91, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, kindness, and banterous humor.
A lifelong learner, Marvin graduated from Central High School before continuing his education at Vanderbilt University, where he earned his law degree. He went on to build a long and respected career practicing law in Memphis, having a private practice for 54 years, serving the community until his retirement in 2014.
Marvin was a member of Beth Shalom Synagogue in Memphis, and his quiet faith was an important part of his life. Following retirement, he and his beloved wife, Patricia, relocated to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where he was embraced by the local community and enjoyed a more relaxed pace of life.
He will be remembered as a kind and generous man, known for his dry sense of humor and his deep love for his family and his cherished cats, Sadie, Felix, and Biscuits.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his children, Lynn Bernatsky (Steve Martin), Todd Bernatsky (Hiroko Nakamura), and Maryellen Neudecker (fiancé Donnie Bianco); his grandchildren, Ryuma Bernatsky, Margaret Ticer (Elizabeth), and Alyssa Yount (Colby); and his great-grandchildren, Jesse Ticer and Callum Yount. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Bernatsky, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends who will miss him dearly.
His life was one of steady devotion—to his profession, his faith, and most of all, his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Burial will take place in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Bay Saint Louis, MS, after a graveside service on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
Edmond Fahey Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Marvin Bernatsky.
