Diamondhead

Lt. Col. Lawrence Joseph Sprenz, affectionately known as "Larry" or "Louie Lawrence Louigi Tip Tanks Sprenz the First Esquire," departed this world peacefully at his home in Diamondhead, MS, surrounded by the love of his family on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the age of 87.

Born on January 19, 1938, in Wauwatosa, WI, Larry was the cherished son of Joseph Paul and Catherine Muschkat Sprenz. His journey took flight at the tender age of 17 when he enlisted in the National Guard, ultimately dedicating 32 years of his life to serving our country with unwavering pride in the Air Force. Throughout his distinguished military career, he was honored with numerous accolades, including the Meritorious Service Medal and the A.F. Commendation Medal, among others. His commitment to service extended beyond his contributions in uniform; he was a devoted member of the World War II Museum, American Legion, and VFW.

Larry's zest for life was matched by a love for adventure. He delighted in exploring the picturesque landscapes of Europe and was particularly fond of the majestic mountains of Colorado. A passionate fan of the Saints, he enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams while reveling in the thrill of college football. His leisure pursuits also included golf, tennis, fishing, camping, and cruising the world’s rivers and oceans. A fantastic cook, Larry often hosted delightful meals for his family and friends, always accompanied by lively conversations that brought joy to every gathering, ending in a game of Aggravation.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Paul and Catherine Muschkat Sprenz.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community. He is survived by his wonderful and loving wife, Janice May Parker Sprenz, and his three beloved children, Thomas A. Sprenz, Mark Anthony Sprenz (Stacey), and Matthew Joseph Sprenz (Susan). He also had the privilege of being a devoted stepfather to Christopher P. Peterson, Allen Lee Peterson (Kathleen), and Jennifer A. Garino (Domenic), as well as a proud grandfather to five grandchildren, Thomas A Sprenz, Jr. Alexandra Sprenz, Jordan A. Sprenz, Mia R. Sprenz and Brooke Berendzen and nine step-grandchildren, Christina M. Peterson, Brandi M. Peterson, Christopher A. Straub, Michael Peterson, Jazmin Gorham, Kristine Peterson, Joshua A. Barton, Domenic P. Garino, Jr. and Victoria Lee Garino; eleven step-great-grandchildren, Skylar Simpson, Sophia Peterson, Kyson Shields, Jordan Peterson, Samara Solomon, Dejuan Soloman, Jr., Mateo Peterson, Joshua Barton, Jr., Liam Barton, Graysen Knouse, and Domenic Garino III; brother, Joseph Paul Sprenz (Sharon). His family was made complete by the companionship of his beloved dog, Sarge, who steadfastly remained by his side.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to St. Joseph Hospice, especially Nurse Marissa, for their compassionate care during his final days. They also extend their appreciation to Jennifer, Domenic, Vicki, and especially D.J. and to all other family and friends whose support and prayers provided comfort during this time.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., followed by a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. Larry will then be laid to rest at Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., with a reception to follow at Janice Sprenz’s residence.
