Louis “Bud” Moreau, age 97, of Bay St. Louis, MS, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday February 5, 2026.

Bud was born in Alexandria, LA where he spent his childhood working in the family business. Shortly after Bud’s high school graduation his family relocated to Bay St. Louis, MS where he resided until his death.

Bud enlisted in the US Army in 1947 and was quickly incorporated into the US Air Force when it was established as a separate entity. He spent much of his time in the Air Force stationed in Okinawa where he served as a Personnel Specialist. He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He continued to serve in the Organized Air Reserve until he was honorably discharged in 1952.

After his military service, Bud built a career as a refrigeration technician where he installed and maintained refrigeration equipment for A&P Grocery Stores on the central Gulf Coast. Bud loved his country and was actively involved in both American Legion Post 139 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3253 throughout his life.

Bud is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Alyse Moreau, and his wife, Ellen Moreau, and two brothers, Raymond Moreau, and Martin Moreau, and one sister, Margaret. He is survived by his brother, Malcom Moreau (Rose), and a niece, Tammy Moreau, and three children, Kathie Short, Patty Ronkartz, and Julia Johnston (Ray), and nine grandchildren, Christopher Crawford, Grace Richards (Bruce), Manning Wilks, Kamann Holland (Derek), Ronald Ronkartz, Samantha Ronkartz, Rachel Sanchez (Alex), Ellen Porter (Jason), Jackson Johnston (Penelope), and ten great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren, and two great great great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Monday, February 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in Bay St. Louis, MS at Gulf Coast Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Edmund Fahey Funeral Home with Rev. Allison Per-Lee of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating.
