Louie “Buddy” W. Storey Jr. peacefully rejoined his heavenly father on Thursday, September 7, 2023 at the age of 71.
He became a resident of the Gulf Coast as a young teenager. After Hurricane Camille in 1969 and its destruction, he did what many other teenagers did by helping out others. His lifelong love for the Gulf Coast began in those difficult days.
Buddy discovered he was a true native son of the Gulf Coast when he discovered his ancestral family.
One descent was a significant French woman, Marguerite of the King Louis XIV (Fille Du Roi). Interestingly, the second group, “The Pelican Girls” included Marguerite’s daughter in law Marie Gabrielle (Saverit) Savory. Buddy always belonged to the Gulf Coast and with the discovery of these two historical grandmothers’, he finally felt he was a true native son.
Buddy had a love for all muscle cars especially Corvette’s and really enjoyed when Cruising the Coast happened. He loved antiques and was particularly fond of antique clocks, working on them and learning of their history. He loved to take people into his “clock room” to show you his treasures. Awaiting Buddy are his yorkies, “Bear” and “Maggie” and his latest beloved morkie “Tanner”.
Buddy acquired his nickname due to his being the miniature of his maternal grandfather, John Elijah Rosier, known as “Bud”. Later on in life, Buddy preferred to be called “Bud” in honor of his beloved grandfather.
Rejoining his heavenly family, Buddy is now back in the arms of others that include his mother Joyce Rosier Storey Holmes and his father Louie Wheeler Storey Sr., maternal grandparents John Elijah Rosier and Doll Mullen Rosier and their sons and daughters.
Buddy is survived by his son John Storey and his daughter Anna Claire and his mother Kathy Shoemake; sisters Gwendolyn Storey and Hope Miller; beloved stepdaughter Lucretia Ruspoli and her daughter Katiemae, her late brother Larry Garcia and their mother Angela Orama; his life long partner Christine Dorn Gallagher and her children Jamie Mitchell and her spouse Doug Mitchell and their son Ryan Mitchell, Jon Gallagher and his wife Melissa Gallagher; sisters of Christine Denise Fayard, Janine Edwards and Lisa Holzhauser; numerous cousins and Buddy’s lifelong friends.
The family especially wishes to mention that Buddy’s final hours were filled with loving and caring attention from his dear friend and caretaker, Debbie Tankersley. The kindness from the Deaconess Home Care and Hospice team were much appreciated. Buddy’s final hours were filled with kindness, gentleness and respect.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
