Laverne "Vern" Newton Halferty, 83, of Waveland, MS passed away Monday, April 8, 2024 in Ocean Springs, MS.
Vern earned a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and a Master's Degree in Education & Administration. He was a Board Certified Medical Technologist before becoming a Science Teacher (Biology & Aerospace) at Hancock High School.
He enjoyed restoring classic cars and loved spending time with his family. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Newton and Dorothy Evelyn Finch Halferty; sister, Wilma Mae Halferty; and two brothers, Stanley Glenn Halferty and Dale Michael Halferty.
He is survived by his wife, Merry Rousse Halferty; daughter, Lisa D. Baehr (Christian); son, Stephen L. Halferty (Ashley); three grandchildren, Cameron Baehr (Ragan Herron), Jaxen Halferty, and Nolan Halferty; and two great-grandchildren, Cohen Baehr, and Kylinn Baehr; two sisters, Louise Norris (Ed), and Teresa Pingree (Fran); two sisters-in-law, Irene Halferty, and Nancy Halferty; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to the Alzheimer's Association Mississippi Chapter: P.O. Box 456 Ridgeland, MS 39518.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon with a Prayer Service at 12:00 noon followed by a Graveside Service with Full Military Honors at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS at 1:30 p.m.
