Jewel Mutz LaCour, 94, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at home in Diamondhead MS.
Jewel was born on September 4, 1930, in New Orleans LA, to Charles and Wilhelmina (Weixel) Mutz. Jewel grew up in a close-knit family in the 9th Ward. Jewel also lived many years in St. Bernard Parish and later, Wiggins MS. She loved gardening, travel, shopping, family meals and family gatherings. She, with Rod, was known for hosting countless get-togethers. Jewel captured the hearts of all who knew her, and is loved and missed so very much.
Jewel was preceded in death by her late husband of 49 years, Roderick R. LaCour Sr, and by her parents, and siblings Elmere ("Sister"), Rodgers, Goldie, Charles Jr., and Merlin.
She is survived by her three children, Bonnie Cannon, Laurie (Larry, deceased) Wheeler, and Roderick "Roddy" (Anna, deceased) LaCour Jr.; her grandchildren Shannon Pulver, Erin McFadden, Gregory (Jordan) Wheeler, Emily (Timothy) Clark, Brittany Brownell (Brad Boudreaux, partner), and Erica Buuck; great grandchildren Abby Pulver, Gemma McFadden, Tayla Russell, Riley Boudreaux, Skylar Boudreaux, and Ezra Arabie.
Per Jewel's wishes, cremation rites were accorded. Visitation will be held at St. Bernard Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens in Chalmette on Saturday, Feb 8, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with a Chapel Service at 1:00 p.m.
