It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry "Rowdy" F. Yates, who passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, in Biloxi, MS, at the age of 80. A true embodiment of love and adventure, Jerry made his home in Diamondhead, MS, where he cherished every moment with his family and friends.
Born with an indomitable spirit, Jerry graduated in engineering from Mississippi State University in 1968. He proudly served as Captain in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Korea as well as stateside for four years, an experience that shaped his character and dedication to service. His remarkable career continued at Saudi Aramco in Udhailiyah, Saudi Arabia, and concluded with a successful retirement from Mobil Oil, with stints in various locations, including Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia, Mobile, AL, Denham Springs, LA, and Houston, TX.
A man of diverse interests, Jerry found joy in many pursuits, from cycling and scuba diving to exploring new destinations around the globe. He also challenged himself with puzzles and strategic games, enjoying spirited rounds of "Hand and Foot" cards. Above all, Jerry believed in the power of community and faith, serving as a valued member of Jacob's Well Baptist Church in Diamondhead, MS.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Leo Franklin and Eunice Yates and sister, Elizabeth Yates Wade.
He is survived by his wonderful and loving wife, Fran Yates, whose love was a constant source of strength and companionship; three daughters, Mona Yates Roller (David), Michelle Yates, and Genea Yates Newell; stepdaughter, Angel Yager (Ronna Bennett); four grandchildren, Brady Roller, Maelon Newell, Megan Hoffman, and Laura Yager and sister, Evelyn Dickerson.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital: 501 St Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 an organization close to Jerry’s heart.
A Graveside Service to honor Jerry’s life will take place on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Biloxi National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m., followed by a heartfelt Celebration of Life at Jacob's Well Baptist Church in Diamondhead, MS at 12:30 p.m.
