Horace “Jimmy” James Johnson, 76 years old, of Pass Christian, MS, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 19, 2025.
Born on January 10, 1949, in Hancock County, Jimmy lived a life centered on family, simple joys of life, and fishing. He shared 47 wonderful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Faye Monnin Johnson. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising their daughter, Amy Johnson and later welcoming their granddaughter, Paisley Roberts.
A barber by trade, Jimmy was known for his steady hand, kind spirit, and the friendships he formed behind the barber’s chair. His barber career started at Heflin’s Barber Shop in Gulfport, moved to Ray’s Barber Shop in Long Beach, and moved to Lamar’s Haircutters until his retirement in 2011, after 48 years of cutting hair. He was known for his flat tops and military cuts (high and tight). Beyond work, his greatest passion was being on the water. Fishing, crabbing, and shrimping brought him joy and peace and he loved sharing those moments, and his catch, with family and friends. He had perfected the skill of boiling seafood with just the right flavor. Jimmy had a love of trains – real trains and model trains. He shared that love of model trains with Paisley. He also loved his vegetable garden, always working to improve his produce and sharing it with family & friends.
Jimmy will be remembered for his warm smile, his love of storytelling, and his unwavering devotion to those he cherished the most.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Chagnard Johnson; father, Horace Chester Johnson; sister, Doris Johnson Rood Bates; nephew, Danny Rood; mother-in-law, Beverly Sciortino Monnin; father-in-law, Warren C. Monnin, Sr.; and brother-in-law, Warren Monnin, Jr.
