Mrs. Elmyra Antone Lewis, age 71 was born August 30, 1951 in Gulfport, Mississippi, in the Soria City community to the late Stephen and Myrtle Lee Jackson. “Antone” as she was affectionately known by family and friends, attended Soria City Elementary School and graduated from Thirty-Third Avenue High School.
After graduation, she united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Larry Joseph Lewis, Sr., and moved to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, a marriage of 52 years. Together they happily raised four children and join the Catholic Faith at St. Rose Delima Catholic Church. Elmyra’s employment started at the White Cap Restaurant, where it was first located near Jones Park, Gulfport, Mississippi. After moving to Bay St. Louis,
Mississippi she worked at the Catholic Father’s Home until Hurricane Katrina. After Hurricane Katrina she worked at Dunbar Village Nursing Home as a cook until she retired. Elmyra was an excellent cook, loved her neighbors like family, she was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She had a relationship with and love the Lord most.
Elmyra was proceeded in death by her parents, Stephen and Myrtle Lee Jackson; her siblings, Deloris Cleveland, Jacquline Jackson, Stephen Lee Jackson, Sonja Alexis, Catherine Nichols, Doriene Adams, Robert Lee Jackson, Robert Charles “RC” Watson, Leon Jackson, Willie Jackson and W. S. Jackson.
Early on Wednesday morning, June 28, 2023, Elmyra Lewis was called home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her loving memories a devoted and loving husband, Mr. Larry Lewis, Sr.; four children, Amelia Lewis, Larry Lewis Jr.,
Jeanene Montgomery, Amber Lewis and son-in -law, Carlton Grymes, Jr.; five sisters, Carrie Agee, Toni White and Mary Knight all of Gulfport, Mississippi; Hazel Jackson, Pasadena, California and Rosie Ella Miles of Chicago, Illinois; two brothers, Frederick Jackson, Hampton, Virginia and Russell Jackson of Tacoma, Washington; nine Grandchildren; Quentin Conway, Jr., Brooke Conway, Jasmine Lewis, Taj Lewis, Amari Lewis, Bradford Laneaux, Mia Gooden Amina Alhanssan and Naomi Grymes;
Six Great-grandchildren; Jayvyen Williams, Jayce Lewis, Daneul Gooden, Bradford Colon, Oihane Laneuax and Ezra Laneuax, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 15, 2023 at St. Rose De Lima in Bay St. Louis, MS at 10:00 a.m.
