Dewey Pulliam

December 8, 1948 — July 6, 2025

Kiln, MS

Dewey Pulliam, 76, a native of Hattiesburg, MS passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 6, 2025. Dewey will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Vinson and Velma Pulliam, a daughter, Sue Moran, two brothers, Jerry and David Pulliam, and sisters Evelyn Pulliam and Ruth Smith. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Florence and his children Sherry Smith (Tracy), Vicky Peterson (Bubby), Nicky Gray, Sharry Nix (Michael), Mickey Webb (Adam), Dewey Pulliam Jr. (Megan), Kandice Pulliam, Amy Falcon (Henry), Colt Gray (Jessica), Amanda Ruiz (Mike), and Zach Edmonson (Brittany). There is also a surviving brother and sister, Lee Pulliam (Tiffany) and Myrtis Dyer (Wayne) as well as 39 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Dewey's passions included New Orleans Saints Football and his family. After his retirement, Dewey liked to volunteer his services in lawn and outdoor activities for others.

For approximately 5 years, he ran a community store in Clermont Harbor, MS until Hurricane Katrina ended that career. In all that he did, he was a diligent and hard worker.

His biggest legacy was compassion for others, especially family and extended family members. This compassion had a way of flying under the radar, yet many lives were transformed because of it. One of his characteristics was he was gifted with wise and thoughtful advice.

Dewey had a nickname for each family member and beyond. Perhaps he had a nickname for you. In a good way, he liked to tease others and had an often-repeated jingle for each member of his family. He was a comedian for sure and he will leave a huge void. But, hey, "You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd."
