Consuelo “Connie” Gonzales, age 88 of Bay St. Louis, MS, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymundo and Celestina Garza; her sons Hector A. Gonzales and John L. Gonzales Jr; her sister Minnie Macias, sister-in-law Esther Garza, and brother-in-law Lee Lopez.
Connie is survived by her husband of 65 years, John L. “JL” Gonzales; her daughter Joy (Mike) Dedeaux and her son Mark (Missy) Gonzales; her grandchildren Ryan (Mailande) Dedeaux, Logan (Victoria) Dedeaux, John H. Gonzales, Madelyn Gonzales, Emma Gonzales, and Noah Gonzales; great-grandchildren Elliot Dedeaux, Luke Dedeaux, Eva Cate Dedeaux, and Joe Thomas Dedeaux; her sisters Mary Lopez and Sylvia Garza; and her brothers Jesse Garza (Lupe) and Bobby Garza.
Connie was born in San Antonio, TX, where she met “JL” and married on July 4, 1961. Their journey took them from San Antonio to Bay St. Louis, MS, where JL was from, and they made their home. They created a beautiful life together filled with love, laughter and a few sad times. Through it all, 65 years of cherished memories were created.
Connie enjoyed a fulfilling life as a stay-at-home mother then became a teacher’s assistant in the Bay Waveland School district for many years before retiring. She was a devout Catholic, as was JL, and both were members of the Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Krewe of Nereids carnival association in Waveland, MS for many years.
Connie loved to cook, travel (many visits to her hometown of San Antonio), and spend time with family. She also loved to dance with her husband, JL. Her love for her family, especially her grandchildren, was attested to by their love for her. Connie was deeply loved and will be missed.
We would also like to thank Dunbar Village and their staff for the care Connie has received over the past 6 years.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 14, 2026, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Garden of Memory Cemetery on Central Ave in Bay St. Louis, MS. A reception will follow the graveside ceremony at Our Lady of the Gulf Community Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church for Mass intentions or to Mother Cabrini League, 434 West Deming Place, Chicago, IL 60614, in her name.
Edmond Fahey Funeral Home, in Bay St. Louis, is honored to serve the family of Connie Gonzales.
