Christopher Cousins, age 71, of Catahoula, Mississippi, and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at his home after a long battle with COPD.
Chris was a skilled electrician and a proud employee of Hancock County’s Buildings and Grounds Department, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dependability. He took great pride in his work and was respected by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
Prior to his illness, Chris also raised Beefmaster cattle on his farm, where he enjoyed caring for his herd and working the land. He loved hunting and spending peaceful days outdoors, finding great joy and contentment in the simple beauty of country life.
Born in New Orleans, Chris was the beloved son of the late James Peter Cousins and Ethel Mae Weiss Cousins. He is survived by his devoted wife, Hazel Cousins; his son, Chris Cousins Jr.; his daughter, Melissa Cousins; his stepdaughter, Brandi Mire; Brian Peterson, whom he considered a stepson; his sisters, Linda Eisermann and Jeanne Richardson; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
His family and friends will remember him for his amazing cooked meals, which were always over the top, and for his generosity and love for those he cared about.
A celebration of Chris’ life will be held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Perkinston on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00. The family invites friends and loved ones to gather and honor his memory.
