Carlos Ray Morales was born in Maringouin, LA on September 19, 1933 and died Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the age of 90 in Diamondhead, MS.
He was the son of Louis Morales Sr. and Ellen Louise Brown Morales.
Carlos was preceded in death by Minnie H. Franco Morales; brothers, Harold A. Morales and Robert C. Morales.
He is survived by brother, Louis J. Morales Jr.; sister, Patsy Gale Walker; children, Sharon Morales, Lisa Wagner (Bernie Connolly), Carol Myers (Robert), David , Robert (Elizabeth), Daniel (Tammy), and Carl Morales; eight grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
Carlos entered the United States Air Force as an X-ray technician in 1952 and left the military after 20 years with an honorable discharge as a Master Sergeant in 1972. He moved with his family from Lake Charles, LA to Minot, ND, to Great Falls, MT and then retired to Sheridan, WY to run the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Radiology Department. He then started his own radiology business with former wife Ginny Bowen Morales, and operated that clinic for several years before selling and retiring once again.
As the father of seven children it was always a struggle to keep kids entertained so family camping trips and summer road trips were his go-to plan. The whole family was loaded up every Friday afternoon and off for Glacier National Park or Yellowstone National Park for weekends full of hiking, swimming, berry picking and bear sightings.
In his later years he left Sheridan and moved to Mississippi to live in the new Armed Forces Retirement Center in Gulfport, MS with other retired military members, including his brother Harold. The beach side living was a nice change from the cold Wyoming winters.
Carlos was fiercely competitive and loved a rousing game of chess or cribbage, cheering on his favorite LSU teams and reliving his earlier days as a softball baseball pitcher and high school football player.
Country music was also one of his great loves and he influenced all of his children to grow into music lovers. He delighted in telling stories about musicians that were not only talented but great business people too, success in many forms. He collected music in every form over his life time and listened and loved music all the way to the very end of his life.
There will be no services and the family will be planning a Celebration of his Life, which will be announced at a later date.
Edmond Fahey Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Carlos Ray Morales.
