Barbara Jean Cannon Moran

Catahoula Community, MS

Barbara Jean Cannon Moran, 87, affectionately known as Memaw and Ninka, of Catahoula Community, Mississippi, peacefully passed away while admitted in Ochsner Medical Center, New Orleans, on Saturday, April 6, 2024.

Barbara married Edgar “Pete” Moran in 1956, traveling with him during his career with Woolworth. After which, Barbara and her husband settled in Mississippi in 1962, where she was employed with DuPont Delisle, retiring in 1999. Barbara was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church for over 62 years where she faithfully served in many capacities, including Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, bereavement committee, and custodial ministry. She was a seamstress, played the piano, active in her Bunco group, and loved cooking meals for her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara was an avid Florida Gators and Seminoles fan, tuning in for whichever sport was in season. She also had a special connection with her school classmates from Bishop Kinney, several of whom would join her yearly in Biloxi, MS for a reunion. She holds a special place in the heart of many, and will be greatly missed.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Lelah Cannon, and two brothers, Jack and Bill Holland.

She is survived by her faithful husband of 67 years, Edgar "Pete" Moran; four children, Perry (Rita) Moran of Catahoula Community, MS, Mark Moran of Catahoula Community, MS, Tony (Dinell) Moran of Crane Creek, MS, and Patti (Mike) Grisham of Kiln, MS; eleven grandchildren, Ashley (Channon), Heather (John), Sarah, Jacob, Kristina (Chris), Kari (Chaz), Clinton (Samantha), Ashton (Satchl), Maegan (Ryan), Riley, and Ross (Amanda); 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret "Hooty" (Phillip) Rowe; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Kiln, MS. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Graveside prayers and Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Picayune, MS.
