Ann Chapman Stieffel passed away on February 10, 2024 at the age of 90. She was born on November 4, 1933, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and moved to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, at a young age with her family. Ann cherished her upbringing near Washington Street and Chapman Road, where her love for horses blossomed and her passion for sailing and tennis flourished.
After graduating from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1951, Ann attended the University of Mississippi, studying English. She later worked for many years at the EPA Gulf of Mexico Program at NASA Space Center.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Harwood Stieffel, Jr., her father Alfred Wilson Chapman, mother Juanita Gelpi Chapman and stepfather Henry Buckley Chapman. She is survived by her ten children: Sally Ann Stieffel, Ray Harwood “Woody” Stieffel, III, Kathleen Marie Stieffel, Christine Cunningham (John), Cynthia Cady (Larry), Tracey Elizabeth Stieffel, Rodney Henry Stieffel (Diana), Dennis Chapman Stieffel (Debbie), Lawrence Bishop Stieffel, Matthew James Stieffel; and by her loving and devoted brother, Henry Gelpi Chapman “Harry”.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Christopher, Sarah, and Brittany Massengill; John, Bishop, Newt, and Ann Cunningham; Charlie and Mac Cady; Emma Stieffel Eyman, Rodney and Dalton Stieffel; Timothy, Rachel, Melanie and Elizabeth Stieffel; and great-grandchildren Chloe and Kaylee Massengill and Hayden, Brooklyn, and Mason Stieffel.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Milissa Norman for her loving and professional care of their mother in her last days and to Dr. Jay Libys, Dr. James Crittendon and the wonderful team at Gentiva Hospice, with special thanks to Mindy Wickman.
Ann's huge heart and enduring spirit will forever guide and inspire everyone she leaves behind. She was admired, respected and well-loved by all who had the honor of knowing her and being loved by her.
Arrangements are being made by Edmond Fahey Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church from 10am – Noon, followed by the celebration of a Funeral Mass. A reception will follow at Bay-Waveland Yacht Club.
