Alfred "Al" Louis Arnold

Alfred Louis Arnold "Al", 73, of Bay St. Louis, MS passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 25, 2024 in Waveland, MS.

Al was the youngest of five children born to Carl and Viola Dubuisson Arnold.

Al attended St. Stanislaus and Bay High School, where he met the love of his life, Vicki McCaleb, and graduated in 1968. He attended Jefferson Davis Jr. College and then entered the "working world". He and Vicki married on July 1, 1972, and settled in a cozy apartment owned by the Artigues family. He started a new job with the City of Bay St. Louis Utilities Department, then on to Bay Fire Department as Assistant Chief. He left there for monetary reasons to go offshore for a few months, but missed his wife and baby daughter, so that ended very quickly. His good friend, Alton Sick, got him a job with him at International Paper Company where he remained for eleven years. He then ventured to Stennis Space Center and held multiple positions until ultimately retiring in 2009 as a Quality Inspector for the Space Shuttle engines for Pratt Whitney. He always joked that when there was a launch and the shuttle "zig-zagged" a little, that he caused that. Anyone who knew Al will tell you he was a "People Person" who never met a stranger. He knew just about everyone in Hancock County, loved to tell stories and was very active in his community, being a member of the St. Stanislaus Sidelines Club, Waveland Civic Association, and many other numerous organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Viola Dubuisson Arnold; two brothers, Carlos, and Dennis; two sisters, Sheila Kenworthy, and Phyllis Arnold; nephew, Buddy Arnold; and great-nephew, Bobby Arnold.

He is survived by his wonderful and loving wife of 51 years, Vicki McCaleb Arnold; two daughters, Aimee Mayfield (James) and Gretchen Darby (Scott); six grandchildren whom he adored, Brennan Arnold, Kaitlyn Arnold, Jaimee Mayfield, Madison Mayfield, Caleb Darby, and Leah Darby; fifteen nieces and nephews; thirty one great-nieces and great-nephews; and special cousin, Rita Marshall.

In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital: 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105-3678 or St. Clare Catholic Church: 236 S. Beach Blvd. Waveland, MS 39576.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at St. Clare Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be held at a later time.
